The Hollywood Reservoir is one of my favorite leisurely walks that’s nearby and easy to get to. It’s a little over 3 miles but basically flat and often shaded. The reservoir is partially obstructed by a chain link fence for most of the walk, but you can still see it, and your other side is covered in greenery. It’s a very peaceful walk, and half way through takes you over a dam with a full on view of the lovely water, the Hollywood sign, and part of LA. It’s my favorite view of the sign and a great place to take visitors.
To get there: go up Lake Hollywood Drive, take a right at the Wonder View Drive stop to stay on Lake Hollywood Drive, and descend down the hill. At the bottom of the hill is the reservoir– you can park anywhere on the hill and walk down to the gate. There are usually at least some spots available, and even if it seems busy, you will be surprised how little you see people on your walk. I like to start by walking through the gate to the right side of the reservoir, since on your way back around you’ll have lots of views of the sign. To finish your loop, you’ll exit the path and follow the road to the left until you return to where you parked.
